Snap on scanners and the big (white &) red truck!

I have worked for more than 15 years selling/servicing/updating diagnostic systems.

Why is it that people still buy Snap-on scanners?

Think it through with me.

So your product mix is all domestic maybe?

They do well on reading and clearing codes on the big three lines.

Live data is okay, adaptations even.

What happens when you need to replace an engine ECU?

You can’t program or code a new module with it.

What do you use for that?

Ford IDS is around $1200 and the subscription is $599.

Done.

GM MDI is around the same $1200 and the yearly package is $3100.

Done.

Chrysler is the worst with their DRB 1, 2, & 3 but the new WiTech is affordable.

Okay, so it makes no sense for a Domestic shop.

It’s not the Asian tool of choice, it has basic OBDII for Subaru?

No, it is not an Asian tool.

We know it is worst on the European side of things, people say it is pretty good on BMW!

It won’t program a thing!

You can’t even bleed the brakes on a Mini!

No, the only good reason to buy a Snap-on scanner is to get them to come round regular for the payment!
