Davide!
Are you back at the shop?
Does the software freeze on the yellow DK head and the OPS?

Can you narrow down the possibilities for me by checking if you can get the same result when the diagnostic head is not connected?
When that is not connected the DIS software will tell you repeatedly that it is not happy with what it is not seeing, but it should let you get past those warnings. BMW’s DIS version of “demo mode”
If it goes past the point were it has been freezing, when it has no MUX, then I would substitute the grey LAN cable with a known good one first, then I would see if the OPS MUX acts the same way. Then see if you can communicate through the yellow DK or the OPS with the SSS, or Progman program.
Once we eliminate the hardware, we replace your HDD.
We have a newer version dated 03 of 2009 anyway.
I also should be able to finally get the DIS and TIS in Italian for you.

Let me know what you want me to do.

Carman Scan Lite Update

Jerimy,

Let me start by apologizing for all of this drama.

Very confusing.
I am still not sure that we got our update and unlock strings from the real Nextech at all.
Well, they started at Nextech. For sure.
They might have been taken and redistributed by someone without permission.
Some software maybe somehow slipped through cracks while the old owner/new owner thing was going on.
The unit appears to be updated. Yet, I have no proof other than new version numbers on the menu selection screen.
I checked it on a Lexus and a Subaru today, it looked good to me.
Nick will maybe able to see new capabilities.
I checked it on my Saab, and actual values on wheel speed sensors were way off. 🙁
No worries there.
I e-mailed my contact that has been negotiating for North American rights.
He said he was promised an answer to North American exclusivity by Friday.
The company has a new owner. It will be call Carman, not Nextech.
There are five Korean engineers in California for the last five weeks.
They have been handed as many OE software’s as they needed for development and there is a commitment to new functionality.
We will see what we will see.
As for your Carman Scan Lite.
I could not leave well enough alone.
So.
After I said thank you for unlocking the 1270 update I pushed for the TPMS addition that used to cost 7 or 8 hundred.
I got this back;
I will give you free
14.11.2012. 16.33, <postmaster@autodiagcart.com> је написао/ла:
Then;
Hello Dear,I will be tommorow in office and I will send you free

Best Regards,
Jugend

So, I wait, and I wonder….
Is Jugend a female? If not I am not comfortable with the Dear thing….
Whatever
As for the bill, I just sent it….
Do you have a mortgage on your house or can you maybe apply for one?
Just kidding.
Your friend,
Paul

2008 Audi-Crank, intermittant no start, VCDS no communication w/TCM

Testimony as to why FACTORY diagnostics are inevitable!

An Import shop in Castle Rock, CO had this car. They ended up sending this job away.

TCM faults somehow led VCDS, only the most widely respected VW-AUDI diagnostic suite in the WORLD, to fail communication to this module.

I wonder now if the tech tried clearing the codes and rereading the TCM if it would have communicated with the VCDS system by Ross-Tech.

You would think that it should have but it would not.

Here is the sequence of events.

Customer complaint is sporadic crank, no start.

VCDS quick test, fails communication with the TCM, no other system advice.

I connect the VAS19 going through the Universal scanner from Taiwan.

We choose guided fault finding from the opening screen and it connects to all modules and fills a list of faults with descriptions.

Number one on the list was a Control Area Network fault, just after that is a button referencing the relevant CAN wiring diagram.

No searching, no distractions from going to another PC searching through information systems like All DATA or Mitchell On Demand.

The factory information is right there.

We work our way down the list and see that the factory software is able to tell us more.

The shift indicator position switch reported a possible short to ground and sporadic communication with the TCM. Probably a bad switch or faulty connections in that circuit.

Call or e-mail us for guidance in installing these OE diagnostic systems, don’t miss out on a tranny R&R simply because you cannot see the relevant data!

Launch horror story

We were doing a sales demo at a shop and heard a mechanic recall his experience using launch.

Was on a ~2003 Mercedes diagnosing an airbag code, the launch told him he had to replace the  airbag module ($600), so he ordered the part for the next morning.  The next morning he came in and the Mercedes DAS system had been returned from being used at one of the other shops.  Before installing the airbag he scanned and DAS told him that it was only the clockspring !

Boy was the owner mad.  Then when he called the dealer to return the part they only offered him $300!!! Lost $300 because of faulty information on the launch !

VW AUDI performance tunes voiding warranties

CAREFULL!

I was at an Audi dealer the other day and was told that they can tell if you have been remapped!

They can even tell if you took the p tune out and returned the original files!

Be careful!

SVM and Geko is watching!

The latest Audi products need Guided Fault Finding to do a service reset!

service after the sale

One of my customers called this week to tell me that they had been robbed!

He is in Charlotte, NC.

The perps took the Toughbook with the Mercedes DAS on it! Any local Pawn shop should give them at least $25 for it!

I hate pawn shops.

I sent him a loaner laptop so he can continue working till we get him his replacement.

That’s service.

It has been awhile

We have all been VERY busy, I am sure.

I just got this question from visitor to our website;

Hello,

I’m a technician at an independent repair facility in Minneapolis.
I currently run a snap on and have gotten tired of the lack of
coverage and the complete idiocy of the snap on truck driver. I also
run a Bosch mvci, and a autocom as well as a vcds.

I service alot of Honda, Toyota, vw, Audi, Subaru, ford, gm

I service some BMW Volvo Saab

I rarely service mini Mercedes smart

I would like to have access to geko for dash immo access

I currently use a think pad x61 and would like to continue using it
because of the tablet input.

What would you suggest I purchase for daily diagnostic needs as well
as the occasional programming need. I am open to the idea of a new
pc for programming. Is the DOL a good option? Or am I better off
going with a cardaq and installing offline versions of mfg software?

I’d like to keep the investment under 4k if possible

Thanks!
Dan Decker

Hello Dan,
Thanks for your contact.
You have made some interesting choices for diagnostic equipment.
Please give me a couple of answers so I might make the best recommendations.
What version of the Snap On scanner are you working with?
With the Bosch mvci, are you running the ESITronics diagnostic suite?
What do you think of it?
Is Bosch mvci a true J-2534 device?
Is the Bosch mvci seen as the GM MDI?
http://www.boschdiagnostics.com/TESTEQUIPMENT/DIAGNOSTICS/SCANTOOLS/MDI/PAGES/MDI.ASPX
Your choice of the think pad x61 is a good one.
What OS is it running and what are the hardware statistics?
Like HDD ghz rating and how much RAM?
You said that you do not often service mini Mercedes smart.
Do you work on regular MB cars?
Let me know the answers to these questions and I will work on a recommendation.
Call me if you like.
Respectfully,

Paul Callanan

Everything for VW AUDI VSM GeKo

Here is a quote I put together today.

Hi John,

I took a closer look at the VAS 6150B

You are considering the Professional VAS 6150B Testing System Package for your VW AUDI needs.

Hers is a link; http://vw.snapon.com/SpecialToolsDetail.aspx?type=Tools&itemId=38710013

WOW! $13,193.60. Nice rack! LOL

Pretty fancy! We can do it for a lot less!

The 5051/51b is superceded to a $435 printer called the VAS5051/51D.

You already have printers!

Do you have a laptop we can use for this?

The Toughbook has it’s benefits, but are they worth $4500?

I don’t think so. You can buy ten $450 laptops for that!

Let’s see that is 2 for each technician and four to put up on the shelf to replace damage or lost PC’s!

No, I believe a seperate PC is best for this job.

It does not need to be much.

The System requirements for the VAS are easy to meet.

VAG recommends WIN XP PRO svc pack 2 for the install.

You are not going to find that on any new ones.

The biggest difference is the VAS 6356; http://vw.snapon.com/FileServerRoot/CatManFiles/FilesPublished/EQS/VWTools/Images/Digital/Thumbnails/VAS6356.gif

for $6,300.

It has amp clamps and probes as well as an insulation tester for the Hybrids that are coming!

I don’t believe it actually interacts with the VAS19 software though.

The values that it will help you see are already able to be seen with your current equipment.

If you want more, I am sure I can get an additional discount by going direct to the manufacturer.

Besides, like alot of this, Snap On Equipment solutions are almost constantly O.O.S.!

I have approval tp buy the OE head directly from Softing AG!

I am awaiting the P and A.

Best Regards,

Paul

Ford F450 exhaust and diesel filter replacement

Advantage Auto in Parker, CO called me last Wednesday.

They bought a VCDS pro kit from me the week before.

They hung a new exhaust and diesel filter on this 2008, we had to calibrate the Engine Control Module or PCM.

I was shocked that to hang a pipe we needed the OE software! You don’t, but in order for the particulate filter to work correctly you need a calibration.

I went down, first thing Thursday, It only took a second.

Call us, we can help.
