Unintended results

It’s happening.

Electronics and systems try to help drivers keep their vehicles in safe operating conditions.

Drivers are finding a way around these systems!

Heard last week about a Cayenne with the TPMS light on. Shop tried to make the TPMS happy by adjusting the pressures and failed.

Customer advises the shop to over inflate the tire pressures in order to satisfy the TPMS MIL and drives away thinking that is okay. 🙁

Nice FAIL people!

On a Ford. Alarm triggered by passenger side front door. Car has been to the dealer twice, they cleared codes but did not fix anything.

I recommended removing the sensor and completing the circuit with a jumper to see if that eliminates the trigger.

That must have been too hard to do. The owner removed the fuse for the horn. That fixed the result of the problem.

Not the problem! Now car is driving around without a horn!

Another nice FAIL!

Shops have seen more incorrect “fixes” like this. Why not post some of them here!

Synchronizing new key with replaced AAM

Not possible when you are dealing with Mercedes Benz of Albuquerque!

Those turkeys just cost us several hours of trying.

They did not send the “special Mickey Mouse” round temporary key!

Then they required the customer bring the car with the old AAM to the dealer!

Mercedes should ask themselves, “why do we feel it is okay to punish our customer’s?”

When ordering TRP’s, you must get authorization from the car owner!

Copy of license, registration, and authorization from the car owner to act as his representative!

Present this when ordering the TRP!

If the dealer gives you any trouble, give it right back to him and demand the parts be sold!

A quote to Car Quest

OE software's x 11

Nine seconds to get here

Reuban,
Thanks for the call.
I have worked with CarQuest to complete a couple of deals.

The Universal scanner from Taiwan is the most capable scan tool in North America today.
The package from Taiwan is like getting three scanners in one deal!
It has good coverage on all brands being imported to North America.
OBD-II generic as well as vehicle specific diagnostics, going deeper into secondary systems or comfort systems.
Powered from the OBD-II, the quickest to fully boot, the Universal scanner from Taiwan gives you an all systems autoscan option on most brands.
Read and clear codes, live data, activation’s, adaptations, and the bluetooth to the PC wireless control for graphing and printing options make this very user friendly.

The OE manufactures have been including all the information in the PC.
Wiring diagrams, TSB’s, Guided Fault finding, and component locators!

So the Universal scanner from Taiwan includes three years of access to updates in the purchase price. TheUniversal scanner from Taiwan is talking to 2013 cars now, at the end of the updates, you will be have coverage on 2016 YM’s!
That is $6K, without a trade in. Ask us about qualified trade ins.

The laptop we recommend is a reconditioned Dell e-5510.
We have done these installs many times on this platform and all is working great.
We install a 1 Terabyte Seagate Semi Solid State HDD and put 12 installs of Windows on it for the most trouble free connectivity.
A fully loaded laptop sells for $4500 and is the best package deal.
We do install less than all lines as per customers requests, these need a separate quote.

ISIS

Finally.

We have been trying to connect to a BMW with the ISIS or ISTA or ISID for quite awhile now.

Many months and hours and dollars have gone by.

We bought a Chinese ICOM for testing, now we understand a little bit better, why you don’t buy those.

It has been since October of 2011 that I paid in full for this.

I also had to buy the Dell e-6420.

The ICOM set never fully worked until this weekend. It would connect and pull a VIN, then drop out of communication.

So, a couple of thousand dollars tied up for almost two years.

I paid for a new connector. What I have is a repaired connector!

I will never get what I paid for.

I had to send it back, they did replace a bad chip and replace the noisy cooling fan.

The ISIS is full of great information and diagnostics!

More values and functions than the DIS.

More information than an Autologic will ever provide.

Repair information in a much more friendly format.

Call and ask us today how we can help your shop get connected today to the server at www.BMWtechinfo.com!

So, don’t buy copied hardware to use with bootleg installs from China.

Buy the Universal scanner from Taiwan. Now allowing full diagnostics and programming!

Clearly the best choice for foreign car diagnostics.

The WHOLE Universal scanner from Taiwan package is less than just the ICOM hardware set from API!

What make more sense?

I walked into a long time customer’s shop in Fort Collins yesterday.

He has been talking with Direct Capital.

Direct Capital is the preferred financier for Autologic deals.

Direct Capital has been calling and telling potential customers that he works for Autologic for quite awhile now.

I do not know if the Autologic rep in this area is even aware of this deal!

He is too busy clearing codes with his demo unit for $50 a pop. You should maybe call him.

The deal Direct Capital was presenting was for BMW @ $11,500 and $1,200 a year maintenance after that.

He would only have BMW and Mini.

No workshop advice.

No fault trace.

No wiring diagrams.

No component locators.

Today we are shipping that customer an Universal scanner from Taiwan, a programming power supply and a fully loaded laptop for less than $10,000!

He will have all the brands covered with the fastest most complete hand held tool in the business!

He will have no subscription fee’s due until he decides to renew after his access to updates ends in 2016!

Just call that the Autologic deal Killa!

Snap on scanners and the big (white &) red truck!

I have worked for more than 15 years selling/servicing/updating diagnostic systems.

Why is it that people still buy Snap-on scanners?

Think it through with me.

So your product mix is all domestic maybe?

They do well on reading and clearing codes on the big three lines.

Live data is okay, adaptations even.

What happens when you need to replace an engine ECU?

You can’t program or code a new module with it.

What do you use for that?

Ford IDS is around $1200 and the subscription is $599.

Done.

GM MDI is around the same $1200 and the yearly package is $3100.

Done.

Chrysler is the worst with their DRB 1, 2, & 3 but the new WiTech is affordable.

Okay, so it makes no sense for a Domestic shop.

It’s not the Asian tool of choice, it has basic OBDII for Subaru?

No, it is not an Asian tool.

We know it is worst on the European side of things, people say it is pretty good on BMW!

It won’t program a thing!

You can’t even bleed the brakes on a Mini!

No, the only good reason to buy a Snap-on scanner is to get them to come round regular for the payment!

Factory software is better than Autologic

Autologic

Just got a call from another very satisfied customer.

He bought a system from me back in 2009. Four years, no need to update till now……

He works on just Mercedes, BMW and Porsche.

He called to ask about updating my system.

He said the guys in the shop are all factory BMW and MB so they are familiar with the OE softwares.

He bought an Autologic for MB and BMW about five or six years ago.

That was 20K and 2,3K a year for maintenance. Oh, then they had to update to the newer unit for another 7K!

He said he wishes that he had never bought the Autologic.

They hardly ever pick it up anymore!

Please call with pricing requests.

Another quote

We went out and did four demo’s a week ago Wednesday.

One down three quote request’s to go.

Mark,

Thanks for giving us an opportunity to connect in your shop the other day.
We successfully connected to Brent’s VW using VAS PC for Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Skoda, and Bentley.
I wish time had allowed us to show off on a Porsche,a Mercedes Benz and a BMW!
The Universal scanner from Taiwan is a good decision based on it’s own functionality. It is made by a Taiwanese company, on their way to celebrating 15 years in the USA.
If the Universal scanner from Taiwan was on the shelf in your shop the tech’s would go to it more than the other tools.
It is quicker to boot. Faster to operate.
It goes deeper when you need it.
The factory help is incredible. The OE factory software has all the information.
All car lines, except Porsche, are current 2012 versions.
BMW calls it a test plan.
We now have a Stand alone install of the BMW ISIS. The information in that is even better!
VAG calls it Guided Fault Finding.
Mercedes Benz includes their advice as you go along in the Diagnosis.
Volvo calls it Fault Trace.
These information systems narrow down search parameters based on connected vehicles.
When a wiring diagram pops up it often is the wiring diagram, no leaving the car to search, no distractions.
Need to find a module? Component locators are included if available.
Expected values in tested components, coding suggestions for modules.
Adaptation advice. All this improves productivity.
Purchase price includes three years of access for updates, to keep the tool current till 2016!
The price for theUniversal scanner from Taiwan is $6000. Some trade in offers are still available.
The PC, fully loaded, is $4500.
I look forward to your questions.

Paul Callanan
